{"id":12398,"date":"2023-08-17T02:18:41","date_gmt":"2023-08-17T02:18:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/isafespend.com\/news\/hang-seng-tumbles-over-2-and-leads-losses-in-asia\/"},"modified":"2023-08-17T02:18:42","modified_gmt":"2023-08-17T02:18:42","slug":"hang-seng-tumbles-over-2-and-leads-losses-in-asia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/isafespend.com\/?p=12398","title":{"rendered":"Hang Seng tumbles over 2% and leads losses in Asia"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"LiveBlogArticle-featuredContent-3\" data-module=\"featuredContent\" data-test=\"featuredContent-0\" data-analytics=\"LiveBlogArticle-featuredContent-3-0\"><span class=\"HighlightShare-hidden\" style=\"top:0;left:0\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets extended their losses on Thursday after the U.S. Federal Reserve&#8217;s July minutes showed inflation concerns lingered, which could lead to more rate hikes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With inflation still well above the Committee&#8217;s longer-run goal and the labor market remaining tight, most participants continued to see significant upside risks to inflation, which could require further tightening of monetary policy,&#8221; the meeting summary stated.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Funds rate currently stands at 5.25% to 5.5%, the highest in 22 years.<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong&#8217;s Hang Seng index tumbled more then 2% on its open and led losses in the region, while on mainland China, the CSI 300 inched down 0.47%.<\/p>\n<p>In Australia, the\u00a0<span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"LiveBlogArticle-QuoteInBody-2\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"><\/span><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> was down 0.9%, ahead of its unemployment rate for July.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"LiveBlogArticle-QuoteInBody-3\">Nikkei 225<span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"><\/span><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> slid 1.41% and the Topic was 1.38% lower, as the country saw its trade balance slip into a deficit in July from a surplus in June.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217; Kospi was down 1.38%, while the Kosdaq slipped 1.08%.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Overnight in the U.S., all three major indexes notched a second straight losing session as the\u00a0Dow Jones Industrial Average\u00a0dropped 0.52%, while the\u00a0S&amp;P 500\u00a0dipped 0.76%.
