Investing.com — The number of daily active users on Meta’s (NASDAQ:) Threads text-first service has fallen to under 10 million, down from a peak of almost 50M globally registered days after its blockbuster launch, according to data cited by the Wall Street Journal.
The paper said the figures, which were derived from analytics firm SimilarWeb (NYSE:), also showed that time spent on the Threads app has dropped by over 85%.
Facebook owner Meta rolled out Threads in early July in a bid to attract users seeking an alternative to Elon Musk’s short-text offering X, which at the time was known as Twitter. The early adoption of Threads was strong, with the app becoming the fastest to ever touch 100M downloads.
But usage of the microblogging app has since fallen and many users have complained of a lack of some key features.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Meta is aiming to unveil a web version early this week to help address a central desire flagged by users. Until now, Threads has been mostly designed for mobile phones, meaning that users have had only limited access to posts on their desktop devices.
People familiar with the matter told the WSJ that the launch plans for the web version are not final and could still change.
