Denver’s Marijuana Mansion Lists for $2.3 Million

Denver’s Creswell Mansion gives new meaning to the phrase “high Victorian.”

Located in the Capitol Hill area of the city, the landmarked mansion dates to 1889 and was originally built for Denver businessman Joseph Creswell, according to the Denver Public Library. Designed by John J. Huddart, the residence is built in High Victorian style, which combines elements of Queen Anne and Romanesque Revival architecture.

It’s also the site of a marijuana dispensary and “was the Colorado headquarters for the Marijuana Policy Project, which was responsible for creating the legalization laws for Colorado in 2012. The mansion was also the offices for the law firm Vicente Sederberg around the same time. This is where the world’s first successful recreational marijuana bill was written, Amendment 64, as well as many other marijuana milestones,” according to its website.

Now, the Creswell Mansion, also nicknamed “the Marijuana Mansion,” has hit the market for $2.3 million. The property also includes a second, leased out building that’s home to the Grant Street Green Dragon Dispensary.

“The mansion could have a multitude of different uses in the future, including for residential or short-term rentals or more traditional office users. The current owner can fully vacate the property or leaseback the mansion short-term upon a sale,” according to the listing with Cory Gross of Marcus & Millichap. It hit the market earlier this month.

The residence boasts historic elements such as stained-glass windows, wood detailing, a grand wooden staircase and a Vintage Pot Parlor that’s been decorated in an old-school cool style. There are also several rooms with decidedly weed-related themes: the Dank Disco Club, the Ganja Garden and the Pot Tub Room (a bathroom with clawfoot tub), among them.

Currently open for self-guided tours, photoshoots and private rentals, the mansion “combines the elements of a museum, interactive art exhibit and private space into an epic, Insta-worthy playground that sparks wonder and imagination,” the site said.

Owners Lisa Leder and Amy Gunsaullus of Best Properties, a Florida-based investment firm,  bought the mansion through an LLC in 2019 for about $1.2 million, according to records with PropertyShark.

In addition to the property’s unique usage and historical character, it’s also in a popular neighborhood, Gunsaullus said.

“The property is located in the epicenter of the Capitol Hill Neighborhood in the heart of Denver,” she said. “This neighborhood, which is steeped in history, is one of the trendiest places in Denver with a long list of restaurants, shops, bars and museums.”

The Denver Business Journal first reported the listing.
